Nap Time

Not only did Will sleep until 6:30 this morning, he also took a mid morning nap!!! I hardly knew what to do with myself! Michael came into the nursery this morning and said that I was a different person! I felt back to my old self after getting 6 consecutive hours of sleep. Ahhhhhh...
Will also seemed a little more cheery. I can't wait until all of those teeth come in! We have been working on getting Will into a routine. I highly recommend reading The No Cry Sleep Solution if you are having trouble getting your little ones to sleep. Maybe I'm counting my chickens before they hatch here, but I'm looking forward to some more sleep in the nights to come.

We took a little trip to see Great Grandma Doris and Great Grandpa Harold this afternoon. Will just seems to make everyone happy when he's around. He was smiling at his great grandparents and hamming it up. He got a little fussy towards the end. I think he was ready for another nap. He slept most of the ride home, even through my out of tune singing! I love that boy!

My Guilty Pleasure

Alright, most of you know by now that I am a fan of American Idol. I love music, so it's fun for me to sing along and see the guests, etc. So to celebrate the finale we had a party at my house. You had to come dressed as your favorite AI personality. Here we have Paula, Sanjaya, and Phil. Don't we look like rock stars? I tried to create a faux-hawk like Sanjaya, but my friend, Marianne's was numero uno. I thought I snapped a picture of it, but I don't have one. Guess you'll just have to imagine it. A lot of love went into that faux-hawk. We had some pretty snazzy rock stars in the house. Little G. (Marianne's son) had his own opinions of American Idol as you can see from the picture. He kept turning the TV off!

Stand by Your Man, Even if He's Only Two Feet Tall

Just wanted to let all of you know that Will stood up for the first time today, all on his own, without holding on to anything! He was sitting down on a little step in our house, when all of a sudden he just stood up! He looked at me so proud of himself. I gave him a little cheer and some applause. With all that encouragement, he did it a couple more times. Woo-hoo!

Two Part Blog: Letting Go & Line Dancing with Germans

Part One: Letting Go

As I was making dinner tonight, sweet Will was checking out all of the cupboards. Today he found the cupboard with all of the pots, pans, baking sheets, etc. As he was taking out each item I realized that I had to "let go". I don't want to be one of those moms who is so uptight about a clean kitchen that her little one never gets to have any fun. So I got out the camera and took pictures of my little boy surrounded by half of my kitchen on the floor. I remembered to be thankful for his curious spirit and that he can find so much entertainment in my pots and pans. What a cutie! Who cares about a clean kitchen anyway?

Part Two: Line Dancing with Germans

So after slaving away at the stove my sweet hubby came home so I could get my groove on down at the Elks Lodge. That's right--the Elks Lodge. Maybe you weren't aware, but it is the most happening place in town. My girlfriend, Diantha wanted to give her German exchange student a new cultural experience. How can you visit the United States and not go line dancing? So she invited a few of us out on the town. If you have never line danced, you really should try. It's so much fun. We had a few lessons and then we were on our way. Anywhere my girlfriends go there is a party. Wait a minute, I hear music in my head...This ain't no disco, this ain't no country club either...what was I saying? I need to get out and push my tush more often!*

*The tush push is a line dance, for those of you unfamiliar with line dancing terminology. It makes the last line seem more clever, don't you think?

My very first blog

Oh, I am so proud! Here I am blogging. First a cell phone that weighs less than ten pounds, now this!

I'm starting this blog to keep you all posted on Will's progress as a little human being and also what we are up to as a family. I hope you all enjoy it!

Today was such a wonderful day, I had to create a blog to tell the whole world about it. Here's some background...

This week has been a bit trying. Will has been teething this week and sleep has been hard to come by. I think he is getting four new teeth, all at the same time. Is that possible? When I woke up this morning I just knew I had to get out of the house. I announced to Mike that I was going to the beach! Will and I had a great day together. He actually slept on the way there (this is a small miracle in itself). He was well rested when we arrived. We stopped to get lunch at Cafe Stephanie--my favorite little place to eat in Newport. Will was my date as we ate lunch together and I got to chat with some very friendly people around me. Next stop was to the beach. Will seems to love everything about the beach. Just seeing him laugh and play made me feel renewed as a mother. He was crawling like a crazy man towards the ocean. He would have kept right on crawling if I wouldn't have stopped him! I love to see Will and his fascination with the world around him. He was just taking in the seagulls, the ocean breeze, the sand, kites flying in the air. It really makes me appreciate life in a whole new way. We just had a good time laughing and playing together. After that we headed to the Aquarium. What fun! Will was cracking up at every little thing. I love that little guy! I think we checked out every exhibit. Finally, we made our way to the Chowder Bowl. I bought a whole quart for Mike. I felt I owed him one after he had the patience to listen to my insomniac ramblings the night before. I don't know what I'd do without him! As an added bonus I got him some taffy for dessert. How can you go to the beach and not bring back taffy? It was a nice adventure and good to break from routine a bit. I'm grateful I can do this from time to time. Will slept most of the way home, even as I sang to the Dixie Chicks at the top of my lungs. When the lullaby song came on I had tears in my eyes thinking of my sweet little angel asleep in the back seat. I love days like this!
