Can I Be Your Tambourine Girl Tonight?

I can't sing.  I can't play the guitar.  What's a rock n' roll girl to do?  Play the tambourine and shake her little tush, of course!  :)  How do you make that happen without sleeping with a band member?  I found out tonight.  Before leaving to see Grace Potter and the Nocturnals I made a sign that said, "Can I Be Your Tambourine Girl Tonight?"  Why not, right?  You only live once.  I grabbed a pizza box out of the recycling and quickly wrote the words out before zooming off in the car.  What if one of the band members decides to pull me up on stage and play for a while?  SO EXCITING!!!  Anything could happen!  I'm bopping up and down at the concert, putting out the vibe (props to Jim Carey), my sign is up and I'm hoping they will take notice.  Grace Potter and the Nocturnals put on an amazing, rocking show.  You really should go out right now, buy all of their albums and go try and see a show.

At one point, a woman who had too much to drink came up and asked me to put down my sign.  She was nice about it, but she was drunk so I didn't know if I should really take her seriously.  After a while I put the sign back up again.  Another guy asked me if he could have my sign.  I said no.  He said something about it blocking the view of the band.  Alright, no problem I will just put it down.  He says, "seriously, can I have your sign".  I say no again.  I might have added an explicative to the end of that sentence, but it stayed in my head because I'm polite that way. Really, I am a courteous person.  All you have to do is ask nicely and usually I'm happy to oblige if it's something reasonable.  Hmph.

Now I'm feeling a little self-conscious about the dang sign.  I really don't want to be that obnoxious concert goer who bugs everyone in their vicinity, but I DO want to have a good time.  The sign sits for a few songs.  Then a cute couple come up and ask me what it says.  I tell them and they strongly encourage me to get closer to the stage and HOLD UP THE SIGN!  Kristin, my sister-in-law, is with me and also encourages me to get closer.  We get up there.  A few people even push me to the front of the stage.  Whoa!  This is happening, isn't it?!  I'm up in front rockin' my sign when Grace Potter herself, like a long legged, blonde rock goddess kneels down and hands me her tambourine--KNEELS DOWN AND HANDS ME A TAMBOURINE Y'ALL!!!  Are you kidding me?????  My heart was beating out of my chest.  One of the best moments of my life!!!!  Woo-hoo!!!

Other highlights: A rainbow during the concert, coloring in the sign beforehand to make it more readable, riding up with girlfriends and getting to know each other better, hanging out with Kristin and rocking out together yet again, lightning on the drive home.  :)
